Commemorating Martyr Sardasht Osman at KCO Office: Calls for Justice and Freedom for Sherwan Sherwani

To mark the 16th anniversary of the assassination of journalist and student Sardasht Osman, a commemorative ceremony was held at the Kurdish Intellectuals Organization (KCO) office, organized by the 17 February Organization.

During the event, Dr. Gova Ahmed, President of KCO, and Aras Bilbas, the organization’s Secretary, delivered speeches condemning the assassination as an abhorrent crime devoid of all human values. They reiterated the urgent need to bring the perpetrators to justice.

The ceremony also addressed the state of press freedom and human rights in the Kurdistan Region. Participants strongly condemned the ongoing impunity for those who target journalists. Furthermore, the event served as a platform to protest the imprisonment of journalist Sherwan Sherwani, criticizing the actions of security agencies and calling for his immediate release and the fulfillment of his rightful demands.

This activity reaffirms KCO’s unwavering commitment to supporting free speech and advocating for fundamental human rights across the globe.
