Attack on Kurdistan Press Team During Erbil Coverage Sparks Outrage

On the night of August 11, 2026, while covering a tanker fire incident in Erbil, the press team of Kurdistan Press channel faced violations against their rights as journalists.

According to video footage recorded and published by the media outlet, a Kurdistan Press reporter was actively taking a statement from an eyewitness at the scene. At that moment, a Civil Defense employee sprayed water on the journalism team to prevent them from continuing their coverage. In the video, the reporter can be directly heard saying, “They are pouring water on us.”

This action by the Civil Defense staff member is viewed as an explicit violation of journalists’ rights and a sign of disrespect toward the sacred mission of media.

Meanwhile, the Kurdish Intellectuals Organization in the UK expressed its stance on the incident, describing the behavior against the Kurdistan Press team as an “inhumane act” and a breach of press freedom. The organization urged relevant authorities to respect the efforts and work of journalists and to prevent the recurrence of obstacles and interference while they perform their duties.

This incident once again raises concerns regarding the protection of press freedom and the need to ensure a safe environment for journalists while covering emergency events.

لە شەوی ١١ی ئابی ٢٠٢٦، لە کاتی ڕووماڵکردنی ڕووداوێکی ئاگرکەوتنەوەی تەنکەرێک لە شاری هەولێر، پێشێلکاری بەرامبەر تیمی ڕۆژنامەوانی کەناڵی کوردستان پرێس ئەنجامدرا، ئەمەش دژی پێشێلکردنی مافی رۆژنامەنووسیە.

بەپێی ئەو گرتە ڤیدیۆییەی کە لەلایەن میدیاکەوە تۆمارکراوە و بڵاوکراوەتەوە، پەیامنێری کوردستان پرێس لە شوێنی ڕووداوەکە سەرقاڵی وەرگرتنی لێدوان بووە لە شایەتحاڵێک. لەو کاتەدا، کارمەندێکی بەرگری شارستانی ئاو دەکات بە تیمی ڕۆژنامەوانییەکەدا بە مەبەستی ڕێگریکردن لە بەردەوامی ڕووماڵەکەیان. لە ڤیدیۆکەدا ڕاستەوخۆ دەنگی پەیامنێرەکە دەبیسرێت کە دەڵێت: “ئاومان پێدا دەکەن”.

لە لایەکی ترەوە، ڕێکخراوی ڕۆشنبیرانی کورد لە بەریتانیا هەڵوێستی خۆی لەسەر ڕووداوەکە دەربڕی و ئەم بەڕەفتارەی بەرامبەر تیمی کوردستان پرێس ئەنجامدراوە بە “کارێکی نامرۆڤانە” و پێشێلکردنی ئازادی کاری ڕۆژنامەگەری وەسف کرد. ڕێکخراوەکە داوای لە لایەنە پەیوەندیدارەکان کرد کە ڕێز لە خەبات و کاری ڕۆژنامەنووسان بگرن و ڕێگە لە دووبارەبوونەوەی ئاستەنگ و ڕێگرییەکان بگرن لە کاتی ڕاپەڕاندنی ئەرکەکانیاندا.

ئەم ڕووداوەجارێکی تر پرسی پاراستنی ئازادی ڕاگەیاندن و دەستەبەرکردنی ژینگەیەکی ئارام بۆ ڕۆژنامەنووسان لە کاتی ڕووماڵکردنی ڕووداوە نەخوازراوەکاندا دەووروژێنێتەوە.
