Over Criticizing the Government: Journalist Arrested in Soran, Current Status Unknown
In a continuation of violations against freedom of expression and journalism in the Kurdistan Region, the Soran Asayish (security forces) have arrested a journalist, whose whereabouts and fate remain unknown.
According to sources, journalist Abdulrahman Khidir Hamad, a former reporter and current member of the “Standard” media institution, was detained by security forces within the Soran district. Despite the passage of time since his arrest, no information has been disclosed regarding his place of detention or his health status, and he remains missing.

Regarding the case, the Kurdish Intellectuals Organization in the UK has conducted a thorough investigation into the journalist’s arrest. According to information obtained by the organization from its sources:
“The primary reason behind the arrest of Abdulrahman Khidir Hamad is linked to the sharp criticisms he has recently leveled against the performance and institutions of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG).”
Growing Concerns Over Press Freedom
The arrest of this journalist comes at a time when local and international organizations continuously warn about the deterioration of press freedom and the narrowing space for dissent in the Kurdistan Region. The case of Abdulrahman is viewed as yet another example of the mounting pressure faced by independent voices.
لەسەر ڕەخنەگرتن لە حکومەت؛ ڕۆژنامەنووسێک لە سۆران دەستگیر دەکرێت و چارەنووسی نادیارە
لە درێژەی پێشێلکارییەکان دژی ئازادیی ڕادەربڕین و کاروانی ڕۆژنامەگەری لە هەرێمی کوردستان، هێزەکانی ئاسایشی سۆران ڕۆژنامەنووسێکیان دەستگیرکردووە و تاوەکو ئێستاش چارەنووسی نادیارە.
بەپێی زانیارییەکان، ڕۆژنامەنووس (عەبدولڕەحمان خدر حەمەد) کە پەیامنێری پێشووی دەزگای میدیایی “ستاندارد” و ئەندامی ئێستای هەمان دەزگایە، لە سنووری قەزای سۆران لەلایەن هێزە ئەمنییەکانەوە دەستبەسەر کراوە. سەرەڕای تێپەڕبوونی ماوەیەک بەسەر دەستگیرکردنیدا، تا ئێستا هیچ زانیارییەک لەسەر شوێنی ڕاگرتنی و باری تەندروستی بەردەست نییە و بێسەروشوێنە.
سەبارەت بەم کەیسە، ڕێکخراوی ڕۆشنبیرانی کورد لە بەریتانیا بەدواداچوونی وردی بۆ پرسی دەستگیرکردنی ئەو ڕۆژنامەنووسە کردووە. بەپێی ئەو زانیارییانەی ڕێکخراوەکە لە سەرچاوەکانییەوە دەستی کەوتوون:
“هۆکاری سەرەکی دەستگیرکردنی عەبدولڕەحمان خدر حەمەد، بۆ ئەو ڕەخنە توندانە دەگەڕێتەوە کە لە ماوەی ڕابردوودا لە ئەدای حکومەتی هەرێمی کوردستان و دامەزراوەکانی گرتوویەتی.”

دەستگیرکردنی ئەم ڕۆژنامەنووسە لە کاتێکدایە کە ڕێکخراوە ناوخۆیی و نێودەوڵەتییەکان بەردەوام هۆشداری دەدەن لە خراپبوونی دۆخی ئازادیی ڕۆژنامەگەری و بەرتەسککردنەوەی مەودای ڕەخنەگرتن لە هەرێمی کوردستان، کەیسەکەی عەبدولڕەحمانیش وەک نموونەیەکی نوێی ئەو گوشارانە سەیر دەکرێت کە دەخرێنە سەر قەڵەمە ئازادەکان.
