Escalating Pressure on Journalists: Guards of Salahaddin Bahaddin Attack Reporter

ERBIL, May 4, 2026 — Today, in the capital city of Erbil, a reporter for the Kurdistan Press media outlet was subjected to an assault and aggressive behavior by the personal guards of a high-ranking political leader.

According to video footage captured during the incident, Mohammed Khailani, a reporter for Kurdistan Press, was attempting to fulfill his professional duty by posing a question to Salahaddin Bahaddin, the Secretary-General of the Kurdistan Islamic Union (KIU). The footage reveals that the leader’s guards intervened with extreme force, distancing the reporter in a manner that violates basic principles of media engagement.

The Kurdish Intellectuals Organization in the UK issued a formal statement strongly condemning the assault, highlighting three critical points:

• Decline of Freedom: Such behaviors are clear indicators of a regression in freedom of expression and journalistic operations within the Kurdistan Region.

• Demands for Accountability: The organization calls upon the relevant authorities and the political party involved to issue a formal apology and to respect the sanctity of the journalistic profession.

ڕێکخراوی ڕۆشنبیرانی کورد لە بەریتانیا لە بەیاننامەیەکی فەرمیدا بە توندی سەرکۆنەی ئەم هێرشەی کرد و ڕایگەیاند:

مافی پرسیارکردن: هەر ڕۆژنامەنووسێک مافی یاسایی و پیشەیی خۆیەتی کە پرسیار ئاراستەی سەرۆک و سەرکردەی حیزبەکان بکات بێ ئەوەی ترسی لەسەر ژیانی هەبێت.

پاشەکشەی ئازادی: ئەم جۆرە ڕەفتارانە نیشانەی پاشەکشەی ئازادی ڕادەربڕین و کارکردنی میدیایین لە هەرێمی کوردستان.

داواکاری: ڕێکخراوەکە داوا دەکات لایەنە پەیوەندیدارەکان و حیزبی ناوبراو داوای لێبوردن بکەن و ڕێز لە پیرۆزی پیشەی ڕۆژنامەگەری بگرن.

دەرەنجام:

ئەم هێرشە لە کاتێکدایە کە ڕێکخراوەکانی داکۆکیکار لە مافی ڕۆژنامەنووسان بەردەوام هۆشداری دەدەن لە زیادبوونی توندوتیژی بەرامبەر بە کارمەندانی ڕاگەیاندن. چالاکوانان پێیان وایە کە پاسەوانی بەرپرسان پێویستە لەسەر شێوازی مامەڵەی مەدەنی ڕابهێنرێن، نەک وەک ئامرازێک بۆ بێدەنگکردنی دەنگی ئازاد بەکاربهێنرێن.
