ً”Condolence letter to Narmin Qadir and criticism for the sleeping conscience of officials”
On behalf of the Kurdish clerisy Organization
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing away of the artist, Ms. (Narmin Qadir). After half a century of service to Kurdish theater and art, and after a difficult and long struggle with cancer, on Tuesday evening (2025/8/5) in Sulaimani, with a heart full of longing for marginalization and poverty, closed his eyes forever.
Ms. Narmin’s death is not only the loss of an artist, but also a painful warning bell of the tragic state of art, culture and national values. While Ms. Narmin and her fellow artists have served this land and nation for years and have been at the forefront of defending our culture and identity, unfortunately they have been responded to by the authorities with indifference and neglect.
It is a great shame to see that in this region, the red carpet is closed for “models” and “influencers” who have nothing to produce except headaches and destroying the beautiful traditions of Kurdish culture. They get dollars underfoot in nightclubs, blindside artists who live in poverty, longing and cut their salaries with luxury cars and expensive businesses. Officials are welcoming those who have become a curse on our values, while our indigenous artists are dying in hospitals due to lack of medicine.
The tragedy of Ms. Narmin Qadir’s life is a living example of this bitter reality. The struggling woman, who made her theatrical debut in 1975 and served for decades, was not paid at the end of her life. According to accounts, when her only daughter visited Hope Hospital to get her medicines, she was told that there were not enough medicines left in the hospital. At his last destination, his body was driven away in an unworthy and disrespectful manner behind a truck. In other countries, artists and their national symbols are given the greatest respect.
We, as the Kurdish Intellectuals Organization, strongly criticize the Kurdistan Regional Government. This indifference and shamelessness towards the lives and welfare of citizens, especially those personalities who have sacrificed their lives for the sake of upholding the name of Kurds and Kurdistan, is a betrayal of the history and sacrifices of this people. The death of any artist in this way creates a huge void in the cultural body of our nation.
Finally, we extend our condolences to the family of Ms. Narmin Qadir and all Kurdish artists and intellectuals. We ask God to grant his soul peace in Paradise and patience to everyone.
