لە دیدارەکەدا، کاشما فاروق ئاماژەی بە نەبوونی هۆشیاری دەسەڵات و کەمی ئاستی تێگەیشتنیان بەرامبەر بە کار و چالاکییەکانی ڕۆژنامەنووساندا کرد، چونکە هەبوونی زۆرترین پێشێلکاری بەرامبەر بە ڕۆژنامەنووس نیشانەی مەترسی و نەبوونی ئازادی ڕەهایە بۆ کارکردنێکی پیشەییانە.

ڕێکخراوی CPJی ئەمریکی پاڵپشتی و پشتیوانی خۆی بۆ ئەو ڕۆژنامەنووسانە دەربڕی و دانی نا بە نەبوونی ڕەوشێکی گونجاوی کارکردنی ڕۆژنامەنووسی لە هەرێمی کوردستان بەتایبەت بۆ ئافرەتان.

لە دیدارەکە ئەو بەڵگانە خرانە ڕوو کە تیایدا هەڕەشە و ڕێگری بوون بەرامبەریان و کاشما فاروق وتی: “ئێمە دەزانین ئاستی ڕۆشنبیری دەسەڵاتی هەرێمی کوردستان زۆر لاوازە چونکە ڕۆژنامەنووس وەک دەسەڵاتی چوارەم و لە ڕووی یاساشەوە مافی دەرخستنی ڕاستی و گەندەڵییەکانی هەیە تاوەکو بتوانێت کۆمەڵگا هۆشیار بکاتەوە، بەڵام هەر دەسەڵاتێک ئاستی ڕۆشنبیری لاواز بوو ئەوا ئامادە نابێت قبوڵی ئەم ڕاستیانە بکات و لەبری چارەسەرکردنی گەندەڵییەکان دێت و دەبێتە بەربەست لە کارکردنی ئێمە و لە هەڕەشەکردن و ترساندن و پەکخستنی تواناکانمان، کار بۆ شاردنەوەی هەڵە و خراپییەکانی خۆی دەکات.”

کاشما فاروق داوای لە ڕێکخراوی CPJ کرد، زیاتر پاڵپشتی ڕۆژنامەنووسان بن و لەکاتی هەبوونی هەر مەترسییەک پاڵپشتی بۆ ڕۆژنامەنووسان دەرببڕن و ببنە پشتێنەیەکی سەلامەتی بۆ ڕۆژنامەنووسان، هەروەها جەختی کردەوە لەوەی داواکانیان بەهەند وەربگرن چونکە کاتێک ڕۆژنامەنووسی تیرۆرکراو “سەردەشت عوسمان”، تەنها لە دوای یەک نامەی هەڕەشە کوژرا، لەکاتێکدا زۆر کەسی لەو نامەیە ئاگادار کردەوە بەڵام هیچ کەسێک بەهەند وەری نەگرت و ئامادە نەبوون پشتیوانی بکەن، بێ ئاگا لەوەی ئەو نامەیە بوو بە بەڵای ژیانی و کۆتایی پێهێنا.

Concerns Raised Over Lack of Awareness Regarding Female Journalists

The American organisation CPJ (Committee to Protect Journalists), which defends journalists’ rights, held a meeting with Kashma Farooq, a journalist and Member of the Media Center of the Kurdish Intellectuals Organization in the UK, and a number of other female journalists who have faced numerous challenges and violations during their careers.

During the meeting, Kashma Farooq highlighted the lack of awareness among authorities and their limited understanding of the work and activities of journalists, stating that the high number of violations against journalists indicates a dangerous absence of genuine freedom for professional work.

The American CPJ expressed its support and solidarity with these journalists and acknowledged the unsuitable working conditions for journalists in the Kurdistan Region, particularly for women.

During the meeting, evidence of threats and obstacles faced by the journalists was presented. Kashma Farooq stated, “We know that the level of understanding within the Kurdistan Regional Government is very poor because journalists, as the fourth estate and legally entitled to expose truths and corruption to raise public awareness, are not appreciated. Any authority with a low level of understanding will not accept these truths and, instead of addressing corruption, will obstruct our work by threatening, intimidating, and disabling us, working to conceal their mistakes and wrongdoings.”

Kashma Farooq called on CPJ to provide greater support to journalists and to express solidarity in times of danger, becoming a safety net for them. She emphasised the importance of taking their requests seriously, recalling the assassination of journalist Sardasht Osman, who was killed after receiving a single threat letter. Despite alerting many people to the letter, no one took it seriously or offered support, unaware that this letter would seal his fate.
